Cleft palate results in abnormalities of anatomical orientation/function of the palatal muscles (levator and tensor palatini) arising form the cartilaginous portion of the Eustachian Tube (ET). It is hypothesized that differences in muscle dissection and repair techniques in the Furlow and Intra-velar veloplasties (IVVP) may result in altered ET function and audiological outcome. This study sought to investigate this issue.
