Are ventilation tubes (grommets) in cleft children truly associated with increased complication rates? Results of a nested case control study of cleft and non-cleft children

Cleft palate (CP) is commonly associated with Otitis Media with Effusion. Recently, use of ventilation tubes (VT) has reduced, in part, due to perception that CP patients experience higher complication rates. This perception is flawed as control and experimental groups used in previous studies differed significantly in age and sex. This study investigates long-term complication rates following VT insertion using a nested case-controlled design.
