A recent technological breakthrough in implant surgery is the use of robotic guidance
(Yomi®, Neocis Inc).

The technique aims to mitigate human-based error and eliminate the use of static
surgical guides by algorithmically directing surgeons according to their virtual treatment
plan.

The system’s spatial awareness algorithm fixes the surgeon’s handpiece prior to initiating
surgery to ensure that the surgeon is at the correct angulation and depth, and can
maintain an adequate safe distance from key anatomical structures. Surgeons have the
ability to make real-time adjustments during surgery. Benefits of this flapless method
also include faster recuperation, less postoperative pain and swelling, and better
patient comfort. Disadvantages include the initial investment, the learning curve,
and the basic knowledge and skills for the operator of the implant surgery. The aim
of this technical report is to describe the use of newly developed haptic robotics
and inform clinicians of this new technology’s capabilities.Keywords
